Our donkeys are the true heroes of our program. They carry our mission forward on their backs. They carry the burden of grief and help heal minds, bodies and souls. They show up for our participants every week, and always manage to bring their best.
Our donkeys help participants achieve things that most of us take for granted, such as walking, or feeling good about ourselves.
Benefits of partnering with our donkeys include improved muscle tone, posture, range of motion, flexibility, social skills and emotional wellbeing. Donkeys provide a non-judgmental relationship, accepting children for who they are regardless of physical, emotional or social abilities.

Donkey sponsorship costs $3,000 a year, and can be paid in annual, semi-annually, and quarterly.

Hay, Pellets, Straw
On the average a bale of hay is $25, we need 130 per year. A bale of Straw is $12, we need 130 per year. We have 3”seniors” who eat “senior Food, the 4 others got an amazing German pellets fully adapted to donkeys.
Medication, Dewormer, Vitamins
Guillermo our retired donkey has Cushing disease. He needs Zygolide every day. Our female, Violette has some hormonal issue, she receives every day a dose of Altren. Our donkeys are dewormed 4 times per year. Then we need for the small wounds, salve, sprays to heal them.
Veterinarian
Once a year all the donkeys got a check-up. They receive all the immunizations necessary. They have their dental work done too. we need to check by blood tests Guillermo and Violette. With 7 donkeys we can have emergencies, which are expensive.
Farrier
Our farrier comes every 9 weeks to trim their hoof. Charles who has bad hooves wears shoes.
Tack
Tacks are very important for the safety of the participants, for the well-being of the donkeys. Good adapted saddles, safe stirrups, bits and bridles adapted to each donkey are mandatory to ensure the progression of our students. Safety for the students and the donkeys is a paramount at the Donkeys of the Heart.
